God of Carnage star Jeff Daniels is set to play three gigs in New York. The actor, who has put out two full-length albums, is taking his guitar to Manhattan's City Winery for concerts on April 20, May 18 and June 22.
Daniels is best known for his acting work, but he is an accomplished singer/songwriter who has released the bluesy, folksy CDs Live and Unplugged and Grandfather’s Hat. “I’ve been writing songs for over 30 years,” Daniels proclaims on his website. “I don’t write hits. I don’t send out demos to famous singers. I just write songs. They’re my diaries.” He has been invited on stage to perform a few songs with legends Lyle Lovett, John Haitt and Guy Clark during their rare "Songwriters" tour and also performed on stage with pal Keb’ Mo’ an experience Daniels called “a free guitar lesson”.
The actor made his Broadway debut as an understudy and stage manager in the 1977 production of Gemini. He also starred in The Fifth of July, The Golden Age and Redwood Curtains and Blackbird. Daniels' extensive film credits include Good Night and Good Luck, The Squid and the Whale, Imaginary Heroes, Gods and Generals, The Hours, Pleasantville, 2 Days in the Valley, Dumb and Dumber, Speed, Arachnophobia, Radio Days, The Purple Rose of Cairo and Terms of Endearment. He is the founder and executive director of the Purple Rose Theatre Company in Chelsea, Michigan. He has written and directed several plays for the Purple Rose.
Daniels is currently starring in Yasmina Reza’s hit comedy God of Carnage, directed by Matthew Warchus, opposite Hope Davis, James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Harden at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. For additional information about the concerts at City Winery, look here.
